High Stakes Poker Ups the Ante

November 23, 2008

If you’ve ever envisioned yourself sitting down at the table of an episode of High Stakes Poker, the size of your bankroll had better be big.  The cost to play has been raised to a very serious $200,000.  That is the minimum buy in for players on the fifth season of High Stakes Poker.  The unheard of amount for an entire run of a poker television series will help High Stakes Poker regain its status as the richest cash game in television history.

“High Stakes Poker, by a wide margin, has become a must-see on Game Show Network for poker players and poker fans all over the world,” Henry Orenstein, an executive producer of the show said.

The televised cash game will be held at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  “We are thrilled to be partnering with Game Show Network in filming their fifth season of High Stakes Poker. It is a perfect fit for the players, the fans, and the Golden Nugget.” Brett Kellerman, the chief operating officer for the Golden Nugget said.
Production of the new season is set to begin December 19-21 and though the network hasn’t publicized the players who will be competing yet, they have been hinting that the audience wont be disappointed and will want to be sure to tune in.  Some of the noteable players from previous seasons who may make an appearance is Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra, Sam Farha, Jamie Gold, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth Jr., Jennifer Harman and Daniel Negreanu.  Last year’s new comers who may make a return were Brandon Adams, Mike Baxter, Brian Brandon, Phil Galfond, Guy Laliberte, Bob Safai, Antonio Salorio and Haralabos Voulgaris.

“I am very excited about the mix of players that we will bring together for this next season,” Mori Eskandani, an executive producer of the show said. “Viewers are in for a thrill.”
