Doyle Brunson has been called many things in his career, typically with the word legend attached. To honor his contribution to the poker world, the Bellagio named an entire tournament series after him. Starting this Friday, November 28th, the 2008 Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic will begin at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. A series of No Limit Texas Hold’em events, the series culminates with the Main Event later in December. There’s something for every poker bankroll here with the first event requiring a mere $500 buy in. The big one however is a little steeper, commanding a $15,000 entry fee.
Those wishing to try to win their way to the Main Event can enter the daily Super Satellites for $1,000, which kicks off this Friday as well. The winner of the Main Event this year will take home at least $2,000,000 dollars and a $25,000 entry to the WPT Championship. Last years winner was Eugene Kathalov, wrangling an impressive win against the games best along with a cash prize of $2,482,605.
Also worth noting is the number of pro players competing for the Card Player POY (Player of the Year) award. Since this is the last event of the year many of the contenders for the title play every event due to the points structure. More a source of pride than anything else for these players, you can expect to see many big names, including first place runner John Phan at the Bellagio this weekend for sure.
