After being abruptly halted with only 89 players remaining in the Latin America Poker Tour sponsored by PokerStars, the poker site today announced their contingency plan to complete the tournament. There are still questions that linger about why Mexican official shut down the tournament with no warning but PokerStars is wasting no time in taking care of their players.
To compensate for the interruption and lack of a live venue, a free roll will be hosted at PokerStars.net for these players and the final nine will be flown to the LAPT Vina del Mar event on January 20-22, 2009. There they will play the final table live with $50,000 being added to the prize pool courtesy of PokerStars. Still remaining in the tournament were big names such as PokerStars sponsored pros Greg Raymer and Victor Ramdin.
The money added to the prize pool demonstrates just how committed to player satisfaction PokerStars really is. When asked about this, PokerStars spokesperson Sarne Lightman said: “We know that many of our remaining players really wanted the opportunity to finish this tournament and earn their shot at an LAPT title. Although the tournament was suspended and the prize money distributed, PokerStars still wants to offer its players this extra opportunity. PokerStars will also be adding $50,000 in prize money to the final table.”
In addition to the prize pool boost, every player was compensated with an extra $500.00 in his or her PokerStars players account for the inconvenience. To date, there is still no explanation as to why the tournament was halted so quickly.
