Party Poker Premier League III concludes

December 2, 2008

It was a bell-to-bell lead for ultimate Party Poker Premier League III champ JC Tran. Heading into the final event with the lead, Tran was able to hold off charges by several players including the second place finisher Tony G. In all, six players made up the final table with the following chip counts –

Seat 1: Tom Dwan (United States) - 260,000
Seat 2: Juha Helppi (Finland) - 340,000
Seat 3: Tony G (Australia) - 260,000
Seat 4: Roland de Wolfe (United Kingdom) - 230,000
Seat 5: JC Tran (United States) - 450,000
Seat 6: Peter Eastgate (Denmark) - 390,000

The action got off to a quick start as the blinds were 5,000/10,000 right off the bat. In an early hand, Tony G was able to capitalize on a semi-bluff by Tom “durrrr” Dwan. With the board reading 7s 8c 5h, Dwan moved all in holding 8h 6s for top pair with an open ended straight draw. Tony, who held Jc 8d for top pair with a bigger kicker, quickly called him. The turn and river brought no help for Dwan, who went bust on that hand to finish in fourth place.

The final heads up battle was between JC and Tony G, who had quite the duel. For a time, Tony G held the lead but Tran took down a mega-pot when the board brought two pair for him and leaving Tony G with a lowly middle pair. That was the tilting point for Tony G, who later succumbed when his own open-ended straight draw lost against Tran’s top pair.

The final payouts were as follows:

1st: JC Tran - $300,000
2nd: Tony G - $150,000
3rd: Juha Helppi - $80,000
4th: Tom Dwan - $50,000
5th: Roland de Wolfe - $40,000
6th: Peter Eastgate - $30,000
