December 22, 2008
As Day 4 kicked off of the 2008 World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic Championship, 55 players were still in the running for the $1,538,730 first place prize. By the end of the night, that story changed dramatically with 18 players returning for the final day of competition in the televised final table of six. A large amount of chips were given to each player at the beginning of the tournament, causing some deep stack play including the professionals who got in on the action and built some huge pots.
Many players were eliminated due to the large hands and made their exits with only some prize money to console them. During each level of play the top of the leader board changed drastically and nobody was safe. Even those at the bottom never seemed that far out of contention either. Mike Matusow was the day’s comeback kid late in the day, he clawed his way back from the brink of elimination to joining the top five in chips within the span of an hour. He managed to end the day with 1,435,000 in chips, putting him in a good position to place at his second World Poker Tour final table of 2008.
