The players complained and the World Series of Poker staff has obviously listened. One of the big issues over the last few years have centered around the re-buy events at the WSOP. Players such as Daniel Negreanu have stated that players with the means (including himself) have a significant advantage in these types of events and thus, if they choose to re-buy enough time, can place deeper than players with smaller bankrolls. Another argument was that this fact diminished the value of winning a WSOP re-buy bracelet. There were opponents and proponents on both sides but clearly the WSOP management team agreed with the proponents. The new schedule has removed all re-buy events for 2009.
In related news, they have added a special $40,000 buy in tournament to celebrate the 40th running of the World Series of Poker. This event should attract some of the top players in the world as it’s second in size only the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E event that almost always features a star studded final table.
