In addition to the poker action taking place at the upcoming 2009 Irish Poker Open, there will also be a singing contest. You read right. A singing contest. Between poker players. Better known for their play at the tournament and cash game tables, these players are going to try to go “all in” on a stage.
Even though David “Devilfish” Ulliott has a reputation as quite the piano player and Kenna James has an acting background, don’t expect any Grammy winning performances from this bunch. Also joining the act is Jon Kalmar and don’t be surprised to see a few more pros take a stab at winning. There’s no listed prize or amount of money that’s up for grabs but there will almost certainly be some prop bets amongst the participants and their friends. The judges panel has not been announced but again, expect a crazy bunch to decide the winner as well.
Also, there will be an event meant to raise not only money but awareness for the plight of homeless individuals in the country. On Sunday, January 4th about 500 players are expected to enter the €330 Poker for the Homeless tournament. The fesitivites kick off tomorrow for New Years and will run up the Main Event, which is a €2,000 buy in event. Last years winner was Jude Ainsworth, who took home €180,000 and will return this year to defend his title.
