PokerStars wasted no time in capitalizing on the recent emergence of Russian poker players hitting the tournament trail. With Ivan Demidov being the new face of poker in Russia, many new Russian players are turning to online poker to craft their game. Not unlike the legendary Chess players that hailed from the country, the new school poker players from the same land are following suit.
With 201 entrants in the very first event, the Russian Poker Tour hosted by PokerStars has been called a success. The total prize pool generated from the $5,000 entry fee guaranteed over $300,00 or 10 Million Russian Rubles for the ultimate victor. While Demidov didn’t make the final table, it was still dominated by native players such as Sergey Solntsev and Dimitru Gaina. When the smoke cleared, the final 9 finishers were as follows:
1. Oleg Suntsov – 10,616,000
2. Vadim Markushevsky – 5,469,000
3. Alexander Pantukhin – 3,217,000
4. Sergey Solntsev – 2,380,000
5. Bulat Bikmetov – 1,930,000
6. Sergey Popuk – 1,608,000
7. Anatoly Ozhenilok – 1,287,000
8. Dimitru Gaina – 965,000
9. Evgeny Zaytsev – 643,000
