Gregg “Bunky” Williams
I said I would post this a while ago and am just getting around to it. There are three main styles I use at any point during a poker game and I could be using anyone at any given point. Thats why if you watch my play I may play the same hand completely different under same circumstances. Here are the three styles I attempt to mimic.
The “dolly” style (a suspersystem special wherein Doyle is the inspiration)
The “Ciaffone” style from the books of Bob Ciaffone solid yet aggressive
and the “Daniel Negraneu” style
The Doyle style is my “third gear” I use this alot playing shorthanded and I’ll use it full ring for a gear change. Its a fast play and its hammer hammer hammer, and it doesn’t take long to set this groundwork. Usually an orbit or so will give you the necessary action you will need on your bigger hands. I’ll also shift to this gear mid hand if I get an opportunity to do so.
The ciaffone style (which is my first gear) (who I am going to be taking NL lessons off of this winter ) Is solid, aggressive and will play slower than doyle but will use position to raise limpers, even with suspect hands like a 97s in an effort to take the initiative and take pots down. I’m also leading , checkraising depending on position and generally making people’s life miserable with this style, because I am playing tighter in this style, the leads raises get a bit more respect.
The most fun one to play is right in between and its the “danny” style.
I can limp a bit more in this style in a passive type game in position , make some little raises PF and follow up on the flop, also with this style the delayed c-bet works like a charm. I play more hands and I play a lot more small ball and try to pick and chop at a lot of pots. Works really well against passive players, fit or fold type guys and nutpeddlers. The thing you need to have in the toolbox for this style is the delayed c-bet and also the the check the flop with a good hand to raise the turn if they bet, this sets up the delayed c-bet and will also give you free looks at turn cards and free shots at rivers. its a fun style to play but you need to be able to play well post flop and have really good reads on your opponents. This is the style you’ll see me play where I’m limping alot even in position and keeping pots small until I spike a solid hand, but the pots I chop at and steal in the meantime add up in a hurry. its similar to a doyle style but not nearly as aggressive.
Hope you all like this entry and as always any questions or specifics please post and I’ll be happy to respond.
October results coming in 2 days. Stay tuned.
