High Stakes Poker Season 5 Episode 3 Summary
Doyle Brunson started his second straight episode in a row with pocket kings. Here he got his money in against Elezra who held pocket nines. They run it twice and Elezra gets lucky to get a runner runner flush on the second run.
Conversation is still continuing about a hand from last episode where Dwan bluffed Eastgate and Barry Greenstein. No one at the table believes Eastgate had trips which Dwan has been insisting he had.
On the next hand Durrrr flopped top pair while holding J5, but Ziigmund had an over pair with pocket kings. Unlucky for Ziigmund the board ran scare cards, a pair and an over card. so Durrrr got away from the hand without committing many chips to it.
Talk is still continuing about the hand from last episode, and everyone insists Barry had the best hand. Tom “Durrrr” Dwan is sure Eastgate had it and even offers 3 to 1 on it. If you haven’t watched season 5 episode 2, here is the hand they’re referring to:
Benyamine folds on the turn with pocket deuces on the third hand and looks disgusted when a two falls on the river. Negreanu missed his flush draw and Elezra wins that pot with an Ace.
Eastgate finally fills everyone in that he had a deuce on that big hand, and Durrrr wins the side bets he’s been making. The forth hand is dominated with conversation about Eastgate folding those trips (and durrrs bluff) otherwise it wouldn’t have made the television cut. For what it’s worth Elezra wins the hand by betting the flop with a four flush.
On hand 5 Barry Greenstein raises with JT offsuit and flops a straight, Daniel Negreanu has bottom pair with A8 and makes a call that gets him in trouble when an Ace comes on the turn. Negreanu does one of his classic, I think I’m beat but I’ll call to make sure calls and Barry picks up the big pot.
During hand six conversation about the final hand of episode 2 resumes. Meanwhile Doyle Brunson and Negreanu both have top pair, but Elezra has bottom two. Doyle who had Negreanu out kicked moves out of the way with second best. A jack on the turn froze Negreanu and he gave the pot to Elezra pretty much telling him “bet so I can fold”.
Hand #7 sees Ziigmund make a big raise with 72 over the top of Benyamine who he loses but Negreanu gets into the hand with 54 suited and he picks it up with a semi bluff on the turn.
Hand #8 Durrrr opens for a raise with 6d 5c, Negreanu calls with 9d 8h and Brunson picked up yet another big pair with Ts Th and just smooth called. The flop came Jc Td 6c giving Doyle Brunson a set and Negreanu and open ended straight draw. Negreanu bet and Doyle smooth called. The turn was an Ace and Doyle checked as did Negreanu. The river was a Jack and Doyle attempted to trap with his full house by checking, but Negreanu quickly checked behind giving Doyle the pot.
Hand #9 was interesting because Eastgate grabbed the wrong color chip and it cost him $25K. Daniel Negreanu pointed out that he had bet the wrong amount and was really out of line doing so. Elezra picked up on this and made a big raise, taking down the pot thanks to Eastgate’s mistake and Negreanu drawing attention to it.
On the 10th hand: BaryG1 picked up pocket jacks, put in a raise and Ziigmund called with A8 suited and Negreanu followed with 5c2c and Eastgate with 5d 4d. The flop came 2h Ts 8d and Barry bet $5K and Ziigmund called. Barry checked and Ziigmund bet $26K when the turn was a 9s. The river was a 4s, Barry checked, Ziigmund checked and Barry took down the pot.
Hand #11 Dwan opens for a raise with QsJs, Elezra calls with Ad 4s, Brunson with 6c 3c and Eastgate with Kh Th. The flop came Tc 5d 2d. All players checked and the turn was an 8c. Eastgate bet $8K, Doyle raised to $33K and Eastgate once again folded the best hand.
Hand 12 is the final one of High Stakes Poker Season 5 Episode 3 and players agreed before it started to increase the blinds to $500/$1,000. Here Negreanu opens the pot with pocket jacks, Eastgate calls with pocket threes; Benyamine joins them with pocket fours as does Elezra with 32. The flop was 2d, 4d, 7c giving Benyamine a set. Negreanu leads out, Eastgate calls and Benyamine bumps it to $41K. Negreanu spends quite a bit of time thinking and decides to just call and Eastgate mucks. The turn gives Benyamine quad four and he thinks for a whole and asks Negreanu for a count. After some table talk Benyamine bets $35K and Negreanu puts on a performance before pushing all in and Benyamine obviously calls and wins the $416,200 pot.
