Jamie Gold took first at the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP). This was definitely a surprise for Jamie Gold to win the event, as well a surprise to the poker world in general. His final table success was not pure luck in the previous 16 months before the WSOP Jamie Gold has made 8 final table appearances. Also to beat out a true professional Allen Cunningham takes a great deal of skill and patience. Jamie has more final table finishes then the rest of the final table players except Allen Cunningham.

Born August 25th, 1969 in New York City Jamie Gold became a talent agent and then followed his dream to become a television producer and tournament poker player.

Jamie Gold's mother Jane was an avid poker player, and his grandfather was a champion gin-rummy player. Jamie Gold began working with former WSOP main event winners Johnny Chan and Chris Moneymaker on an upcoming television show, and Chan began to mentor Gold in poker. That's why you saw Johnny Chan in Gold's corner during the final table at the WSOP.

There has been a great deal of controvery with Jamie Gold and his friend Bruce Crispin Leyser. According to Leyser, during the tournament he and Gold reached a deal wherein Leyser would, through advertising, assist Gold with procuring celebrities to represent, and in exchange would receive one-half of any of Gold's winnings from the tournament.
